Here at Breakdown, our classes range in style from ballet to breakdance to ballroom; from recreational to performance classes. Here, you'll find a description of all the classes we have to offer, and will hopefully find one that fits you or your child!

Performance Groups

NOTE: It is recommended that students wishing to enter Lil' Starz, JR's or Breakdown have prior dance experience, or have taken some of our recreational classes.

Tiny Toos (Ages 18 months-2 yrs) $30/mo

Designed for our Tiny dancers! Very basic intro to dance movement. Some structure is incorporated to begin to teach the girls how to listen to a teacher, and follow a dance. Mostly this class is designed to get young ones familiar and comfortable with dance!

Twinkle Toes (Ages 3-4) $40/mo

Beginning intro to dance for little ones! Combination of very basic dance technique, "across the floors", choreography, and fun dance games. Dancers will be taught teamwork and how to follow instruction in a FUN positive atmostphere, while building confidence to shine in their own way! Opportunities to perform are given!

Sweet Feet (Ages 4-5) $40/m

A step up from Twinkle Toes, (Though beginners can catch on pretty quick as well) Combination of styles are taught, Jazz, Hip Hop, and Technique. Working together as a group is also introduced, and what it means to be a "team". Sweet Feet performs in Breakdown's two annual shows, as well as occasional community performances.

Dreamers (Ages 5-7) $50/m

Comprised of younger elementary school aged children, Dreamers are introduced to more dance technique. Jazz and introductory Hip Hop are used in the majority of choreography, and further performance opportunities may be given.

Lil' Starz (Ages 8-11) $50/m

Lil' Starz are made up of older elementary school children. More difficult technique is taught, along with a more intermediate level of choreography. More choreographic numbers are learned for performances as children in this group are prepared for graduating into JR's.

JR's (Ages 12-15) $50/mo

Breakdown's Junior Company is a large step up from Lil' Starz and is comprised largely of middle-school and high school aged dancers. This group often performs with the Breakdown Company and incorporates more styles of dancing into their choreographic work, including lyrical, contemporary, and hip hop. Further technique is taught at this level of the performance groups.

Breakdown Company (Ages 16 and up) $50/m

Breakdown's elite company includes dancers ranging from high school to post-college age. The company is seen in many community performances, and is showcased in the school's two annual performances. More advanced technique is taught, and a large variety of dance styles are included in choreography. Opportunities for solo and lead parts are given as well.

Recreational Classes

While the following classes are offered for recreation, students in these classes are still offered the opportunity to perform with the Breakdown performance groups in their annual shows. These Classes are recommended BEFORE a student enters a performance group.

Zumba! $45/mo ($25 students) $5 drop-in rate

Wednesdays 7:30pm. Class begins Wed April 7th.

The Zumba® program fuses hypnotic Latin rhythms and easy-to-follow moves to create a one-of-a-kind fitness program that will blow you away. Zumba® Fanatics achieve long-term benefits while experiencing an absolute blast in one exciting hour of calorie-burning, body-energizing, awe-inspiring movements meant to engage and captivate for life!

The routines feature interval training sessions where fast and slow rhythms and resistance training are combined to tone and sculpt your body while burning fat. Add some Latin flavor and international zest into the mix and you've got a Zumba® class!

Creative Movement (Ages 2-4) $30/mo

This class is offered for 30 minutes as a short preview to ballet for pre-school aged children. Focus is less on ballet technique and more on listening skills and following directions. Opportunities are given for creative play, "dance games", and open dance time.

Open Studio (Ages 2-5) $5 drop-in, or 6 sessions for $25

Supervised but open, unstructured dance "play" time, where aspiring dancers can come and dance freely! Use of banners, flowers, hula hoops, and other props encourage creative play, all while getting the kids used to being in a studio environment. Parents are welcome to join, sit and watch, or drop off their child. No actual "dance" will be learned, but fun dance games will be taught and led by the instructor!

Ballet 1 (Ages 5-10 or at instructor discretion) $45/mo

A beginning level ballet class, children are introduced to basic positions, posture, and barre work. Proper execution of steps is encouraged, and time is often used for games and activities that showcase what was learned.

Ballet 2 (Ages 11-adult, or at instructor discretion) $45/mo

Dancers in this intermediate-advanced class are introduced to strengthening exercises, center work including adagio and turns, and petit allegro. More advanced barrework and grande allegro is added to the curriculum. The last part of class is focused on strengthening the feet and ankles, and learning proper placement and positioning for pointe work. Once dancers are individually evaluated and have demonstrated proper alignment and execution of steps, basic pointe work will begin.

Ballet 3/ Pointe: $45/mo

Contemporary: $45/mo

This class is designed to further the understanding of modern dance principles, develop technical skills and encourage personal artistic expression. We will explore the incorporation of natural movement in dance as well as the combination of different types of dance styles that contribute to the melting pot qualities and endless possibilities of contemporary dance.

Jazz 1: (11+ or teacher with discretion) $45/mo

(Beginning - Intermediate level) The class is designed to teach the fundamentals of Jazz. Comprised of basic turns, leaps and jumps along with fun choreography that will help you to embrace today's new form of jazz. If you are looking for a fun class that will help you grow in rhythm, movement and technique this is the class for you.

Jazz 2: (teen/adult) $45/mo

(Lyrical Hip-hop) This class is designed for more advanced dancers who wish to be pushed in their technique while learning upbeat intricate choreography containing mixtures of hip-hop, jazz and lyrical movements. In this class you will learn advanced jazz technique such as fouettes, triple turns, switch leaps, leg hold turns etc. This is a fun, energetic and fast pace class where you must come ready to try new things, work hard and never give up.

Kids Hip Hop (ages 5-11) $45/mo

Beginning-Intermediate level class, designed to introduce young dancers to the basics of hip hop, rhythm, and choreography, with a chance to show their skills

Hip Hop 1: $45/mo

Beginning-Intermediate. Students will learn basic hip hop movement, while gaining an understanding of rhythm and choreography. Recommended class for those wishing to eventually become part of a performance group.

Hip Hop 2: $45/mo

Intermediate-Advanced. Fast paced and more difficult choreography is demonstrated, as well as some conditioning for becoming a stronger dancer.



Breakdance (Boys & Girls, ALL AGES, see schedule) $45/mo

Girls’ Breakdance 1

Beginner-Intermediate. Students will learn the fundamentals of Breakdancing (Top Rocks, Ground Rocks, and Freezes). Conditioning will be used to improve muscle strength as learning each move will require it. In an upbeat and positive environment, dancers will get a chance to “break out of their shells” and show what they have learned in a Cypher at the end of each class. This experience teaches not only interpersonal skills, but also how to support one another as it can be a bit nerve-wracking to step out in front of everyone by yourself and dance.

Boys Breakdance 2, Girls’ Breakdance 2

Intermediate-Advanced. Continuing off of Breakdance I, students will expand their knowledge of the fundamentals, as well as exploring how their body can move against gravity. This will be done through practice of being upside down so that they can have a chance to become comfortable with it. Balance is another core aspect of Breakdancing, and their will be chance to become better at this through more conditioning. Students will have a chance to “Battle” each other as this is a very pivotal part of the art of Breakdance, as well as figure out what each other’s BBoy/ Bgirl personality is through identifying their unique abilities and talents.

Salsa (ages 16+ or at instructor discretion)

Beginning and intermediates classes. Couples or singles welcome. Learn the basic steps of Salsa, or brush up on already learned skills. FUN atmosphere! Email with questions!

SALSA 1

Begins: May 21st (Friday)
Time: 6:30 - 7:30 every Friday
Session duration: 6 weeks

SALSA 2

Begins May 21st (Friday)
Time: 7:30 - 8:30 every Friday
Session duration: 6 weeks

All you have to do is show up the first day (no preregistration required). If you decide it's not for you, no need to pay for that class. If you decide you want to stick with it, just pay the session fee after class. (we appreciate the payment after the first class as opposed to later)

Another thing to note, no partner required!

$60 for a couple (signing up with a friend can count as a couple too)

Note: Cash preferred (i've had checks bounce in the past)

ATTIRE

Totally casual. Wear shoes you can spin in. For girls it's a good idea to get used to dancing in high heels.
